Government Oversite

This is the Town Meeting of Brookfield New Hampshire. The 220th town meeting was held on March 11, 2014. The (town meeting) can be traced back to the 1623. It is still the way Brookfield acts upon important matters that impact the community. In the early years attendance was mandatory. If one did not attend it the person could be fined. During the meeting the moderator controls the meeting, where the selectmen read out the Warrant articles. The townspeople vote either Yeah or Nay. Also amendments can be offered and also voted on. Articles are debated and openly discussed. Brookfield keeps this important historical and functional part of local Government alive, while larger towns have long abandoned it.
